A warm welcome to Chicago Tribune readers! This blog was featured in the 4/11/06 RedEye edition, in an article titled “Do it for free” — excerpted here:

Free flicks
Hate shelling out 9 bucks for a movie that doesn’t blow you away? With a little bit of work, you can score free movie passes instead.

Check out www.wildaboutmovies.com. Run by entertainment writer Tim Nasson, the site features at least one film screening a week. Recent offerings included the Antonio Banderas movie “Take the Lead” and an advance sign-up to win “Mission: Impossible 3” tickets.

As summer film season starts, Nasson expects to offer four or five movie screenings a week on his site. Usually, studios give him 50 pairs of passes per screening per city, and winners are picked randomly by computer, he said.

An important reminder: Free passes do not guarantee admission. It’s first come, first seated. Nasson recommends arriving at least 45 minutes early to get a good seat. Other useful sites are fxblader.wordpress.com and www.fatwallet.com.
